Here's an interesting piece from an estate...a very, very vintage dress clip done in Bakelite and rhinestones. The prongs are a bit large for a dress clip but the piece doesn't seem large enough for a fur clip. It's done in what looks like a polished wood carving (butterscotch) but actually tests strongly positive for Bakelite. The plate on the back holds the piece well in place. The top and bottom are trimmed with tiny rhinestones. There is a small chip at the bottom edge on one side that I actually didn't notice for a long time. With a magnifying glass I found a remnant of glue, so the person who had owned it had tried to repair it at some point. Actually, the way the chip is angled, when you look at it from the front you don't notice it; I tried to take the pictures looking slightly "upward" so that it can be seen. This doesn't affect the wearability at all.
It measures 1-3/4" across and is 1-3/4" tall. It's unsigned but quite striking in design. Even with its little impediment and considering its probable age, it's still a worthy of a new life!
Here's a piece that will make quite a statement when it's worn!
