This is a great piece from a quantity of glamourous clothing I found at an estate sale for a woman who had been both an avid collector and entrepreneur with shops in the southwest. Most of the clothing had been stored for some time; just about everything survived well.
This is really a style that you think of from the late 30's-early 40's...the long lines, the fabric, and a bit of draping for elegance. It's a lovely dress, in very good vintage shape from Miss 5'4"...an intriguing label that I've not been able to find out much about!
It features gathers at the shoulders, plain bodice, 3/4 cuffed sleeves, and a side metal zipper. Cut into the left side of the longish skirt is a diagonal seam that begins a wide draped length of fabric that curves around the hip to some snaps on the left side back. This allows the rest of the drape to flow to the hem...and move gracefully in motion! Simple and striking!
There is no size tag; the measurements are 21" bustline lying flat, 15" waist, 23" hips, 17" sleeve, shoulder seam to cuff, 17-1/2" shoulder to waist, and 50" total length. I would recommend a trip to the dry cleaners to freshen the dress since it's been stored so long.
This is a dress that you would expect to see Marlene Dietrich wearing when she poses with her one-of-a-kind sultry look. Do you have an inner Marlene persona? Then this is a must have dress!
